Inscribed in pencil on the back: "Voiles au sec / matin". 25.5 x 40.5 cm PROVENANCE : - Former collection of painter Paul Signac and Françoise Cachin - Private collection, Paris, by inheritance from the previous owner NOTE : Paul SIGNAC and painter Henri PERSON (1876-1926) shared a passion for painting and sailing. They also shared a deep love of Saint-Tropez. Together, they sailed from port to port, often painting side by side, and comparing their works afterwards. In 1907, the two artists visited Constantinople together and acquired a joint boat, Le Sinbad. Their friendship continued through a long correspondence, in which they warmly exchanged views on painting, sailing and their mutual friends. These letters bear witness to a deep and intimate relationship between the two men.
