Related work: Nord, 1981, 12-color lithograph, Mason-Putman 396 (title is not by the artist, but by the publisher) Note by Rainer Michael MASON: The "catalog de raison" of Jacques Putman (1926-1994), recorded in his personal copy of the 1958 Bern retrospective catalog, reads: 1960 / 120 fig Sandberg (canvas at height 1960). It cannot be excluded that this indication refers to a particular interest of Willem Sandberg in this painting, or even to a possible offer from him to Sandberg, the director of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, which showed Bram's first Dutch retrospective (December 21, 1959 to February 1, 1960). In the end, it was another painting that entered the Stedelijk Museum's collection, chosen from the exhibition at Knoedler's in Paris in 1961 (Untitled, Paris, rue des Grands-Augustins, 1961; oil on canvas, 130 x 195 cm; inv. A-21535).
