Arnould de VUEZ (Saint Omer 1644 - Lille 1720) Jesus Healing the Man with a Dry Hand Black and grey wash 40 x 36 cm Bears an unidentified collection stamp in the lower centre Provenance: - Possibly from the collection of Madame de la Villéhélio Note: The healing of the man with a dry hand is one of the miracles of Jesus Christ. Told in three Gospels, including that of Matthew (chap. 12 - verses 9 to 13), it raises the question of Charity. Meeting a man whose hand was paralysed, Jesus was asked whether or not he could carry out a healing on the Sabbath. Refusing to be taken at fault, he answers positively: the good must be done whatever the day, the virtues must prevail over the existing law.
