Francois d'Assise / Study made from nature in Italy, by Miss Sarazin de Belmont, and bought at its sale around 1860 by Mr Dionis. Provenance: Probably Sarazin de Belmont sale, Paris, 3 May 1859. Note: Pupil of Pierre Henri de Valenciennes whose workshop was open to women, Louise Joséphine Sarazin de Belmont exhibited at the Salon from 1812, and until 1867 under Napoleon III. She won a second class medal in 1831 and a first class medal in 1834. Protected by the Empress Josephine and then by the Duchess of Berry, she will possess a dozen of her views of Italy such as ours.
