Attribué à Thomas STOTHARD (1755 - 1834) Boadicea haranguing the Bretons against the Romans Oil on canvas 51 x 64 cm Without frame Note: STOTHARD began his career as a fabric painter. Noticed for the quality of his drawings, he then became an illustrator and participated in numerous books and magazines. He then switched to oil painting. He travelled to France where he visited the Louvre, an admirer of WATTEAU and BOUCHER. In 1794, he became a member of the Royal Academy of London . Here is an engraving by William SHARP (1749 - 1824) based on Thomas STOTHARD's "Boadicea the British Queen Aimating the Bretons to defend their country against the Romans", line engraving - 1812.
