Ramin HAERIZADEH (b. 1975) - Lot 235
Ramin HAERIZADEH (b. 1975) Banana, 2008 Oil on canvas Signed and dated on the back 200 x 200 cm PROVENANCE : - Galerie Isabel van dey Eynde, Dubai - Acquired by the owner in 2009 NOTE: Ramin HAERIZADEH is an Iranian artist. With his brother Rokni, he fled Iran and settled in Dubai. His work explores the themes of identity, memory and culture. His paintings are often critical of the powers that be. Here, the artist voluntarily disguises herself as a woman dressed in a black abaya to challenge the condition of Iranian women. The banana theme is both a reference to pop art, and more specifically to Andy Warhol, but also to a fruit that had become a rare food in Iran due to economic sanctions. Using oil on canvas and collage, his paintings are often highly textured and rich in color. In France, he is represented by the IN situ gallery.
