Pair of large half-moon commodes in veneer and marquetry with rich decoration of trophies of gardener and crosses, opening by two drawers without crosspieces and two side panels. Rich ornamentation of chiseled and gilded bronzes to the glory of the king and good government: figures of the god Mars, Hercules, Temperance and Prudence; cherubs holding a cornucopia from which escape gold coins and a scale with a sword, mask of Apollo, blazons fleurdelisés, foliage and garlands of flowers. Breche marble top. Late 19th century, Louis XVI style H. 96, L. 203, D. 82 cm Width of the marble 202,5 cm Note : Our chests of drawers are the replica of the one delivered in 1775 by RIESENER for the bedroom of Louis XVI in Versailles. Designed to the glory of the King, the central panel represented Minerva and two medallions with the figures of the King and the Queen. During the Revolution the panel was replaced by a country trophy. It was during the sale of Louis-Philippe's possessions in 1857, that the Duke of Aumale bought this piece of furniture. The cabinetmaker GROHE was in charge of its restoration. It is now kept at the Musée Condé in Chantilly.
